CASINO NIGHT – FEB 2, 2019 – LET’S MAKE IT A FUN NIGHT!
Our Lady of Sorrows School’s Casino Night is this Saturday, February 2, 2019. Doors open at 7pm! Our Fundraising Committee, with support of our very generous parents and sponsors, have a GREAT Night in store for you! We have 160 Tickets sold! Tickets will be sent home today, so please check your child(s) bag. As some parents are asking for after dinner entry, the Committee is offering an AFTER 9:00 p.m.- $25 entrance with $500 chip play for those who wish to join the party! There are amazing silent auction items and Grand Prizes to win. There will be Pizza and Burgers served at 10p.m. Thank you to our Amazing Committee for all their hard work! And thank you to all our parents for supporting our playground fundraiser!
OLS RAFFLE BOOKLETS

Raffle winners will be announced at the CASINO NIGHT on Feb 2, 2019 at 11:30p.m. There are still a few outstanding books that need to be returned, as we need to account for all books sold and unsold for our lottery License. Our annual Grade 5 Girls’ Basketball Tournament will take place in our school gym from approximately 11:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. A Concession Stand will be available.

Monday, February 11 is the start of Catholic Schools’ Week. This week is designed to promote the many aspects of the Catholic school community. This community helps guide its people in their devotion to the Faith. By celebrating different facets of Our Lady of Sorrows School, we continue to strengthen the bonds that are the foundation of this Catholic Community.

FEBRUARY 14 & 15, 2019 CATHOLIC EDUCATOR’S CONFERENCE – NO SCHOOL
All teachers will be attending the Catholic Educator’s Conference on Thursday, February 14 and Friday, February 15. The school will be closed for these two days.

There will be no school on Monday, February 18 due to the Family Day holiday.

All families are invited to join the OLS Choir at this Mass on Sunday, February 24.

There will be an enrolment Mass for all Grade 2’s on Sunday, February 24, at 11:30am.

A confirmation meeting will be held on Monday, February 25, 2019 at 6:30 p.m. in the gym. This is a mandatory meeting for sponsors and confirmands.

2018 INCOME TAX RECEIPTS
The 2018 school tax receipts will be available at the end of February 2019. Further details will be sent home with students.
Please note: Although students spend most of the school day 8:45 a.m. to 2:50 p.m. in the school, there is always the possibility students may need to be outside for 10-15 minutes of recess, fresh air, or movement between the church, gym and school. Please ensure your children have appropriate attire for the winter season.

HOT LUNCH ORDERS FOR NEXT SCHOOL SESSION
Ordering for the hot lunch spring session is still open. Ordering will close on Friday, February 1 at 5pm. Once the ordering is closed, we cannot accept any other orders. As well, orders that are not paid for by February 1 at 5pm will be cancelled. Cash or cheques must be received by February 1 by 3pm so your account can be adjusted by the deadline. You must order for the whole session (February 21 to June 6) by the deadline.
Payments can be made by cheque or cash (dropped off at the office in an envelope with your child’s name on it) or online by credit card. Please note, the school does get charged transaction fees for credit card payments.

SCHOOL FRONT DOOR USE
PLEASE NOTE: All students are to enter the school in the morning through the back door, NOT the front door. The back door remains open until 8:55 a.m. If your child is late (arriving after 9:00 a.m.) only then should they enter through the front door to check in with the office.
Preschool parents are to ONLY USE the preschool door (Turner side) for drop off and pick up.
Starting Monday Feb 4th Afterschool care will go up to $5 per every 30 mins, starting at 3p.m., and ending at 5p.m. Afterschool care is offered by the Parish to help parents with late pick-ups and is NOT a subsidized or Government Day-care. The costs of running this program have been increased due to staffing, repairs and maintaining the space. This is a necessary change to help keep the program running. All families who regularly use the service have already been notified in advance, however, parents who wish to use this service in the future MUST NOTIFY the office PRIOR to their child’s dismissal to ensure teachers are aware of attendance. PLEASE DO NOT PARK /BLOCK the Pender or Turner Street Driveways for Pick up/Drop- off or Masses, as we have many deliveries and large truck pick-ups daily. Cars will be ticketed and towed as it is a danger to our students and families trying to navigate through the areas. Thank you for your understanding!
