Dear Parents,
Hopefully you and your families enjoyed your Easter Weekend. As we move quickly through the month of April and into May, please make sure you are checking your child’s back packs for notices. We have a lot of overlap of activities this month and next. Thank you for your diligence!
URGENT NOTICE – PICK-UP & DROP-OFF CHANGE!! PENDER STREET CLOSED!
The City of Vancouver will be working on a broken pipe on Pender Street all next week. We will be changing the drop-off and pick-up entrance to Turner Street. We will not allow cars into the lot for morning drop-off. Please drop-off on the Turner and Slocan drop-off corners, or park further down and walk, into the lot. For pick-up, please use Turner Street entrance/exit only. Again, please be aware of students walking on Turner Street. Parents are encouraged to pick-up quickly and leave. Please do NOT allow the younger children to run around the grass area on Turner.
**Parents, please follow the direction of the traffic and give yourself more time to drop-off. ALSO, if you are walking into the lot, please use the Slocan or Pender Street gates only and watch for cars on Turner Street. Preschool parents can enter from the front Preschool gate and not the lot. PLEASE DO NOT EXIT YOUR CARS AND ENSURE STUDENTS MOVE QUICKLY TO THE SAFETY CONES, CROSSING IN FRONT OF YOUR CAR ONLY! Please inform all grandparents or other family members who pick-up as well. Hopefully this change will only be for a few days, and we will return to the regular morning drop-off routines as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience!
APRIL 20-25, 2022 – SILENT AUCTION
Our 2nd annual silent auction is coming…. keep calm and start bidding!
The event will take place for 5 days only beginning on Wednesday, April 20th. Bidding will close on Monday, April 25th at 8:30 p.m. We have tons of packages to bid on. Please mark your calendars. Please view the flyer that was sent home with students on Wednesday, April 13, 2022 for link information.
REMINDERS
COMMUNICABLE DISEASE PROTOCOLS
Our COVID protocols have changed into communicable disease protocols to continue to reduce the spread of germs that cause cold and flu like symptoms. Again, we are asking parents to not send kids to school when ill, and to use the allocated free COVID rapid tests (sent home before spring break) to ensure students are not attending school with COVID. The incident of COVID is still going to be rising, however, by continuing to keep sick children home, washing hands, and keeping physical distance between contacts, we should continue to get through this school year with minimal disruptions. Thank you to our parents and families that continue to do all you can to keep our students healthy and safe.
APRIL 19, 2022 – LENTEN BOXES
All boxes are now due. Please return them to school as soon as possible. We ask that ALL students label their box with their name and house colour. We also ask that you print the amount collected on the box. Please use this opportunity to encourage your child to give alms (to do charitable work).
APRIL 22, 2022 – EARTH DAY – COLOUR DAY
Dress down in earth colour tones on Friday, April 22nd. Those children who have gym class on this day are still required to wear gym strip under their clothes.
APRIL 24, 2022 – FAMILY MASS
The Family Mass will held be on Sunday, April 24th at 11:30 a.m. We invite all families from OLS to celebrate the Family Mass. This is a wonderful way for our families to attend and participate in the required Sunday liturgy
APRIL 26 & 28, 2022 – LICE CHECKS
The next school-wide lice check will be conducted on Tuesday, April 26th and Thursday, April 28th. Thank you to Mrs. Kraljevic for doing this once again.
MAY 3 & 4, 2022 – TALENT SHOW AUDITIONS
We will be hosting a talent show this year in June (date TBD)! The talent show is open to all students. Auditions will be held Tuesday, May 3rd, and Wednesday May 4th at 12:00 p.m. Please see the notice that is being sent home today for further details.

OLS SUMMER CAMPS
OLS Summer Camps are back! If your child is entering Kindergarten – Grade 5 in September 2022 they can come join us for a week or two of lots of fun activities to kick off the summer! Camps will be held at OLS: July 4th – 8th and July 11th – 15th. Full day and half day options are available. Spaces are limited so registration will be first come, first serve. Registration forms were sent home last week. We hope to see you there!
OUR LADY OF SORROWS PRESCHOOL REGISTRATION
Preschool registration for the 2022-2023 school year is now open. If you are interested in registering for either the Three-Year-Old Program or the Four-Year-Old Program, contact the school office for an application form.

AFTERSCHOOL PICK-UP
Due to the warmer weather, the children will now be spending more time outside. Therefore, the gate to the school parking lot will not be opened until 2:30 p.m. Please do not arrive earlier than 2:30 p.m. to pick-up your child(ren) and wait at the gate as this creates a backlog of traffic and a nuisance for the neighbourhood.
