Dear Parents,
Thank you for your diligence with the cold weather. Students should be coming to school with sweaters and jackets as we will be allowing them to go outside for 20 minutes a day. Please remember to follow the extreme weather updates as we still have a few more weeks of winter to go! Also, I wish to thank Mr. Tony Sorace for organizing the parent volunteer landscaping and snow removal crew! As you can see by our perfectly cleared and salted sidewalks that they have been busy keeping our school and parish walkways clear and safe! Thank you to all our crews for being ready and willing to help on short notice!
IMPORTANT UNIFORM UPDATE!!
We have been informed by Neat’s/McCarthy Uniform that our navy school sweaters and cardigans will no longer have the double white arm bands. There will be a new sweater available for the 2026-2027 Centennial school year. Therefore, Neat’s have agreed to discount the present sweater and cardigans up to 50% until the present stock runs out! So, any purchases for new sweaters for the 2025-2026 year will have to be replaced with the new sweater stock by September 2027. Only the new sweater will be available in 2026-2027. That gives parents 2 years before replacement of the present sweaters. We will also be designing a new 100-year OLS logo for our next Century for the new sweaters as well. The vests and other uniform items will not be affected.
2024 – 2025 WINTER/SPRING HOT LUNCH PROGRAM
Ordering for the winter/spring hot lunch program is now open and will close on Friday, February 7th at 3 p.m. Once the ordering is closed, we cannot accept any other orders. Orders that have not been paid by February 7th at 3 p.m. may be cancelled. If you are paying by cash or cheque, it must be received by February 7th at 3 p.m. so that we can adjust your account. Payments can be made by cheque or cash (dropped off at the office in an envelope with your child’s name and grade on it) or by credit card online. Please note, the school is charged transaction fees for credit card payments so if you would prefer to pay by cheque or cash, it would be appreciated.
This ordering period will be for the regular hot lunches from Thursday, February 20th to Thursday, June 12th. All lunches in this session must be ordered by the Friday, February 7th at 3 p.m. deadline.

FEBRUARY 4, 2025 – CANCELLED HOT LUNCH
The hot lunch that canceled yesterday, due to the snow day, will be rescheduled. We will provide you with the new date once this has been determined.
FEBRUARY 10 – 12, 2025 – CATHOLIC SCHOOL’S WEEK
Monday, February 10th is the start of Catholic Schools’ Week. This week is designed to promote the many aspects of the Catholic school community. This community helps guide its people in their devotion to the Faith. By celebrating different facets of Our Lady of Sorrows School, we continue to strengthen the bonds that are the foundation of this Catholic community. The school will be having a variety of activities. Please have your child bring $5.00 to participate in these activities and for Dress Down week. The donations will be divided up between Door is open and Chalice charities.
• February 10th (Monday) – Jersey Day
o Students may come dressed in their favourite sports jersey.
o Staff and Gr. 7 student Floor Hockey Game.
• February 11th (Tuesday) – Twin/Triplet Day
o Students may come dressed in matching outfits.
• February 12th (Wednesday) – Red Colour Day
o Students may come dressed in Red.
FEBRUARY 13 AND 14, 2025 CATHOLIC EDUCATOR’S CONFERENCE – NO SCHOOL
All teachers will be attending the Catholic Educator’s Conference on Thursday, February 13th and Friday, February 14th. The school will be closed for these two days.
FEBRUARY 17, 2025 – FAMILY DAY – NO SCHOOL
There will be no school on Monday, February 17th due to the Family Day holiday.
FEBRUARY 23, 2025 – FAMILY MASS GR. 4
The Family Mass will be on Sunday, February 23rd at 11:30 a.m. We invite all families from OLS to celebrate the Family Mass. This is a wonderful way for our families to attend and participate in the required Sunday liturgy.
FEBRUARY 26, 2025 – PANCAKE BREAKFAST & KINDNESS COLOURS DRESS DOWN DAY
The Grade 7 Fundraising Committee is hosting a Kindness Day Pancake Breakfast on Wednesday, February 26th. Order forms have been sent home today with the students.
On this day, students may also dress down in their favourite “brightest and most striking colours”. Children who have gym class on this day are still required to wear their gym strip under their clothes.
All proceeds will go towards OLS school Technology Renewal.

2024 SCHOOL DONATION TAX RECEIPTS
The 2024 school donation tax receipts have now been sent home with your oldest child. School tax receipts are claimed as a charitable donation NOT tuition.
MARCH 12, 2025 – IMPORTANT DATE! MANDATORY ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
The mandatory Annual General Meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 12th at 6:45 p.m. in the school gym. A member from each family must attend this mandatory meeting or a fine will be charged as per the Policy Handbook on Page 12 of your child’s Agenda. If you are unable to attend due to illness, vacation, etc., a letter must be sent addressed to the Parish Education Committee explaining why you will be absent from the meeting.
2025-2026 SCHOOL REGISTRATION PACKAGES
Registration packages will be distributed at the mandatory Annual General Meeting being held on Wednesday, March 12th. Please note that packages will not be given out prior to the meeting.
