October 16, 2024 Weekly E-Letter

Dear Parents,

MORNING DROP-OFF
Thank you to all the parents who have adjusted their morning drop-off routine to our new process of staying in your vehicle, sticking to the righthand side of the cones and lining up at the stop sign and not at the school doors. Always follow the directions of our volunteer parking attendants. If you have many children (more than three) to drop off at one time, please pull over in front of the Rectory’s garage (behind the cones) and notify a parking attendant so they can guide the children to the sidewalk. Thank you for remembering that these parents are volunteers and to always be kind!

UPCOMING OCTOBER EVENTS

PARENT PARTICIPATION
For parents on fundraising or school or parish maintenance, please remember to signup for the events as all parents must have at least 12 hours (4 hours per month) by January 1st. Please send an email to the office if you are having trouble doing so. We are still looking for class 2 bus drivers. If you have your class 2 license and are able to assist, please email the office. Thank you to all our volunteer parents who help make our school better for all our students by your participation.

FOOD DRIVE &
“TALE OF THE TAPE” UPDATE
We want to send you our sincerest praise for this year’s food drive. Our goal this year was ambitious with 2,500 individual food items to be collected amongst the four competing houses. The staff at Our Lady of Sorrows School is overwhelmed by the tremendous generosity of the community. This year, we raised a total of 3,281 individual food items for our local food bank, far surpassing our goal. An overwhelming sense of gratitude for all of you during this time of Thanksgiving. A special thanks to the following families whose generosity went above and beyond.

Blue Team:  Cavallo Family
Green Team: Morra Family
Red Team: Reilly Family
Yellow Team: Conlan Family

The Blue House was the winning house with 1,208 individual items collected. Congratulations to the Blue team.

We cannot express enough how much this means for our community during this time of need. Thank you again to all families as the Parish food bank has been blessed with your donations.

WEATHER UPDATE!
As the weather gets colder and rainier, we are asking parents to ensure students come to school wearing proper jackets (with hoods) and appropriate shoes. Please do NOT send students who have gym in the morning wearing only PE strip! Students MUST stay outside until 8:35 a.m. as we must ensure adequate supervision at school while teachers are in staff prayer. Also, students may have to be outside throughout the day for recess or movement between the buildings (Gym and Church) as well as be able to stay in the rain for a minimum of 5 minutes if there is a fire or earthquake drill.

REGULAR UNIFORM NOW IN EFFECT
Regular school uniform is now in effect. Summer uniform will no longer be accepted. We ask that you ensure students have all items in good order and wear their proper uniform including shoes and sweaters to school daily. Also, please refer to our Uniform Policy, which is located in your child’s school agenda, for compliance for hair, nails or jewellery. The agenda is also located on our website’s homepage under ‘Documents and Procedures.’ The goal of a Uniform is to ensure all students are not a distraction and are ready to learn. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

*Sweaters are mandatory for all school functions such as Masses, School Assemblies, Paraliturgies, and outings when representing the school.
