Dear Parents,
Thank you to our students and teachers who have started with such a great back to school week!
We wish to thank our parent volunteers who have also started their roles, especially in supervision. Our morning drop-off and after school pick-up is going very well. Please remember to drive slow through the grounds as there are many blind corners around the gym and lower halls.
Also please wait to be guided through the drop-offs by our vested volunteers.
Remember that drop-off starts at 8:25-8:45 a.m., as we wish all students to be in class for their 8:50 a.m. start. Doors open at 8:35 a.m. and students must line up outside prior to the doors opening as our staff are in morning prayer and meetings.
Dismissal is also staggered by 5 minutes to allow our Grades K-4 students to get to their parents and cars sooner. The gate will open at 2:30 p.m. Grades 5-7 will be dismissed by 2:50 p.m.
When dropping off or picking up your children from outside of the school grounds, please ensure you are following all ‘rules of the road’. Do not stop on the wrong side of the road to drop off or pick up children, do not park in residential only parking, and do not park illegally close to corners and stop signs. This is a safety hazard for our children and nuisance for our neighbours.

PEC ELECTIONS 2021
Nominations for our OLS Parish Education Committee are now being accepted until September 17th.
If you are interested in running for PEC, you must be a member of the Parish and School Community for a minimum of 2 years. Nomination forms can be found at the school office and school website. This year, Mrs. Lisa Mannella’s (Participation) and Mrs. Cristina Morra’s (Secretary) roles are up for election. If you are interested, nominations MUST be dropped off and signed by our Nomination Committee, Mrs. Cidalia Pashalidis (Chair) or Mr. Roger Gil (Vice Chair), prior to 3:00 p.m. on September 17, 2021. Please see the requirements for PEC members on the OLS website. All nominations will then be submitted to our Pastor for authorization, by Monday, September 20th to determine IF elections are required. Election weekend will be Sunday, September 25th and 26th after the regular weekend Masses.
UNIFORMS
Please read the Policy Manual, which is included in the students’ Agendas. See Page 5, Item #5. Teachers will be starting uniform checks by next week. Please ensure all uniform items comply with the Uniform Policy. Students will be allowed to wear summer uniform until October 1, 2021.
*Sweaters are mandatory for all school functions such as Masses, School Assemblies, Paraliturgies, and Fieldtrips when representing the school.
SEPTEMBER 11, 2021– CONFIRMATION FOR 2021 GRADE 7 GRADUATES
Confirmation for last year’s grade 7’s will be held on Saturday, September 11th. Please see Mrs. Crescenzo’s emails for more details.
SEPTEMBER 15, 2021 – FEAST OF OUR LADY OF SORROWS MASS, CELEBRATION FOR FATHER RICHARD!
Our school will have an in-person Mass for Father Richard on the Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows on Wednesday September 15th at 9 a.m. Intermediate students will wear masks in the church and primary will watch from their classes. As mentioned in the summer email, parents who did not get a chance to say goodbye in person, can send a card or gift to the office by Monday, Sept 13th. Students must be in full uniform for the Mass. (black shoes and uniform sweaters)
SEPTEMBER 23, 2021 – TERRY FOX RUN
The annual Terry Fox Run will be held on Thursday, September 23rd. Further details will be sent home beforehand.
SEPTEMBER 23, 2021 – VIRTUAL MEET THE TEACHERS NIGHT
Please mark your calendars. The first mandatory parents’ meeting (as indicated in the Policy Manual and Registration Guide) will be held virtually on Thursday, September 23rd. More information will follow prior to the meeting.
SEPTEMBER 26, 2021 – COMMISSIONING SUNDAY MASS
On Sunday, September 26th at 11:30 a.m. there will be a Commissioning Mass for all staff members of Our Lady of Sorrows School.
SEPTEMBER 27, 2021 – INDIVIDUAL PHOTOS
Students will have their Individual Photos taken by Artona on Monday, September 27th. Please ensure your child comes to school in full uniform on this day. If your child has gym this day, please ensure that they have their gym strip under their uniform.
SEPTEMBER 27 – OCTOBER 4, 2021 – VIRTUAL SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR
The annual OLS Book Fair will be held virtually beginning on Monday, September 27th and will end on Friday, October 1st. Further information will be sent home with students.
SEPTEMBER 29, 2021 – ORANGE SHIRT DAY
Orange Shirt Day will be held on Wednesday, September 29th. This day is to honour Indigenous children who were sent to residential schools in Canada. Orange Shirt Day challenges us to witness and honour the stories of Survivors and their families, and to commit to meaningful discussion and the ongoing process of reconciliation.
SEPTEMBER 30, 2021 – NATIONAL DAY FOR TRUTH & RECONCILIATION – STAT HOLIDAY
There will be no school on Thursday, September 30th. This day is to honour Indigenous children who were sent to residential schools in Canada.-
OCTOBER 2, 2021 – FIRST COMMUNION MASS FOR LAST YEAR’S GRADE 2 CLASS
Last year’s Grade 2 class will celebrate their First Holy Communion on Saturday, October 2nd at 11 a.m. Details will be sent home by Mrs. De Amaral soon!
AFTER SCHOOL CLUB NEWS
Our After School Club starts Monday, Sept 13th (Mon, Tues, Weds only from 3:00 – 4:30 p.m.). The cost for this is $5.00 per 30 minutes per student until 4:30 p.m. In the event you are late for pickup (after 4:30 p.m.), the cost will be an additional $10.00 per student per 30 minutes. Please email the office (office@myolosschool.com) if you are interested in using this service. There are no drop-ins for After School Club. All students must register for at least one regular day and can then drop in any other days (M-W).
