LENT BOXES
Lent boxes will be sent home on February 22nd (Ash Wednesday) (Grades 1-7). All boxes will be collected after Easter Monday, Tuesday, April 11th. We ask that ALL students label their box with their name and house colour. We also ask that you print the amount collected on the box. Please use this opportunity to encourage your child to give alms (to do charitable work).
FEBRUARY 2 & 3, 2023 – OLS BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT
Gr. 5 Basketball Teams will be participating in an all-day tournament at Our Lady of Sorrows. Details will be provided by coaches.

FEBRUARY 6, 2023 – GRADE 2 MASS
Mass will be held on Monday, February 6th at 9:00 a.m. Parents and grandparents are welcome to join us.
FEBRUARY 6, 2023 – MANDATORY CONFIRMATION MEETING
A confirmation meeting will be held on Monday, February 6th at 6:45 p.m. in the gym. This is a mandatory meeting for Sponsors and Confirmandi.
FEBRUARY 7 & 14, 2023 – DOWNHILL SKIING
The Grade 7 class will begin their downhill skiing lessons on Tuesday, February 7th and 14th. Please refer to the information package sent home from Mr. McCloskey. Please note it is very important that the students are dressed appropriately for this event.
Gr. 7 FUNDRAISING COMMITTEE UPDATE
February 11, 2023 – Miami Nights – Back to the 80’s
There are still a few tickets remaining! Proceeds from this event help raise funds to give back to the school (in the past it has been used towards the purchase of new iPads, new technology, or sports uniforms etc.) Last year money was raised to put towards a new Playground!
This is a great opportunity for parents in our school community to mix and mingle and get to know each other and help our school at the same time.
Not sure what to wear? Anything inspired by the 80’s. Think Miami Vice, big-teased hair, bright pink lipstick, shoulder pads, scrunchies, or double-breasted blazers.
Don’t want to wear anything inspired by the 80’s decade, no worries! Come as you’d like ready to have fun.
Don’t forget you must attend the event to purchase a ticket for a chance to win a 3 night stay at the Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas plus a gift card to put towards your flight (prize value $2000).

Ongoing Bottle Drive – Return-It Express
The Grade 7 Fundraising Committee is collecting bottles again this year. It’s easy! Simply place your empties in clear bags and drop them off at any “Return-It Express” depot (link to locations here). The school’s account is under our main phone number (604-253-2434).
FEBRUARY 13 – 17, 2023 – CATHOLIC SCHOOL WEEK
Monday, February 13th is the start of Catholic Schools’ Week. This week is designed to promote the many aspects of the Catholic school community. This community helps guide its people in their devotion to the Faith. By celebrating different facets of Our Lady of Sorrows School, we continue to strengthen the bonds that are the foundation of this Catholic community. The school will be having a variety of activities. Please have your child bring $5.00 to participate in these activities. The donations will be divided up between a variety of charities.
- February 13th (Monday) – Jersey Day
- Students may come dressed in their favourite sports jersey.
- Staff and Gr. 7 student Dodgeball Game.
- February 14th (Tuesday) – Red Colour Day
- Students may come dressed in Red.
- February 15th (Wednesday) – Career Day
- Students may come dressed as their favourite career.
- Kahoot activity (more details will be sent home closer to this date).
FEBRUARY 16 AND 17, 2023 CATHOLIC EDUCATOR’S CONFERENCE – NO SCHOOL
All teachers will be attending the Catholic Educator’s Conference on Thursday, February 16th and Friday, February 17th. The school will be closed for these two days.
FEBRUARY 20, 2023 – FAMILY DAY – NO SCHOOL
There will be no school on Monday, February 20th due to the Family Day holiday.
FEBRUARY 22, 2022 – ASH WEDNESDAY GRADE 3 MASS
Ash Wednesday Mass will be held on Wednesday, February 22nd at 9:00 a.m. Parents and grandparents are welcome to join us.
FEBRUARY 26, 2023 – FAMILY MASS
The Family Mass will be on Sunday, February 26th at 11:30 a.m. We invite all families from OLS to celebrate the Family Mass. This is a wonderful way for our families to attend and participate in the required Sunday liturgy.
2023 INCOME TAX RECEIPTS
The 2022 school income tax receipts are in the process of being prepared. The income tax receipts will be going home with the oldest child prior to February 28, 20223.

MARCH 8, 2023 – IMPORTANT DATE! MANDATORY ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
The Mandatory General Meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 8th at 6:45 p.m. in the school gym. A member from each family must attend this mandatory meeting or a fine will be charged as per the Policy Handbook on Page 12 of your child’s Agenda. If you are unable to attend due to illness, vacation, etc., a letter must be sent addressed to the Parish Education Committee explaining why you will be absent from the meeting.
2023-2024 SCHOOL REGISTRATION PACKAGES
Registration packages will be distributed at the Mandatory Annual General Meeting being held on Wednesday, March 8th. Please note that packages will not be given out prior to the meeting.
