January 19, 2024 Weekly E-Letter

By January 22, 2024No Comments

Dear Parents,

I wish to personally thank all our students and parents for coming back to school today after two closed snow days, and to have such a great visit with our Archbishop Michael Miller. All our students came well prepared in full uniform and were able talk to him about some of the lessons they learn daily in their beautifully prepared classroom. Each grade also gifted the Archbishop with a spiritual bouquet of prayers, as well as showing him how important our Catholic school is to them personally. Thank you to all our amazing students, as it was a wonderful visit from the Archbishop, and he was very appreciative of all their prayers and of how well they answered his questions! Our students and staff made us all PROUD!

As the Archbishop is also making time to meet with all Parish groups, he will also be present at the weekend Masses. We are hoping our parent school community can also have some time to meet the Archbishop by attending the weekend masses and staying for the coffee hours following each of these masses mentioned below. (Please note, the regular Sunday 11:30 mass is at 11am) Thank you to our OLS school community for always showing that we are also a strong faith community!

WEATHER AND TRAFFIC UPDATE
As the weather gets colder and rainier, we are asking parents to ensure students come to school wearing proper jackets (with hoods) and appropriate shoes. Please do NOT send students who have gym in the morning wearing only their PE strip! They should be wearing their OLS sweatpants and sweatshirt over their PE strip. Students MUST stay outside until 8:35 a.m. as we must ensure adequate supervision at school while teachers are in staff prayer. Also, students may have to be outside throughout the day for recess or movement between the buildings (Gym and Church) as well as be able to stand in the rain for a minimum of 5 minutes if there is a fire or earthquake drill.  Also, Please remember to slow down in the drop-off zones as students can be walking between cars are not easily seen in the winter. Thank you!

EXTREME WEATHER & SNOW WEATHER PROCEDURES
If you are unsure of what to do on a snow day, review the Extreme Weather and Snow Procedures instructions which are located under the Documents – School Information & Procedures section on our homepage (www.ourladyofsorrows.ca). Please do not call the school after 8:00 a.m. as all the information will be available online. Our website will be updated by 7:15 a.m. as it is difficult to predict how extreme the weather will be. Thank you for your diligence.
