November 16, 2020 Weekly E-Letter
4, 3, 2, 1

Dear Parents,

The countdown to Christmas has begun! November 30th will be the start of ADVENT. As we prepare for our Christmas Season, regardless of what restrictions are introduced, as the COVID-19 Pandemic hits new highs, we must continue to be people of hope and care.

Again, our parents and students have been OUTSTANDING! I am confident we can continue to keep all OLS families safe until Christmas Break (hence the countdown!), as you have all shown a great love of your neighbour and have done your part to follow all guidelines. Together, we can continue to stay safe! 4 weeks to go! Please keep doing what you have been doing!! Daily screening, keeping kids home if they are ill, wearing masks and proper distancing in our public grounds and spaces. We, OLS students, staff, and families, are doing all we can to keep each other safe! May God continue to Bless you all and keep you safe! Please continue to follow the Vancouver Coastal Health website: www.vch.ca and the exposure listings page: http://www.vch.ca/covid-19/school-exposures#.X4fbW8Vw86U.gmail. Again, with your continued diligence, we hope to keep OLS out of these listings! Thank you!

OUR LADY OF SORROWS KINDERGARTEN SIBLING REGISTRATION PAST DUE
Please note Kindergarten SIBLING REGISTRATION forms were due on Tuesday, November 10th. Please contact the office ASAP if you did not receive a form from your older child as we are now accepting registration waitlist forms from children outside the school. Failure to return the sibling form will result in losing a spot for the September 2021-22 Kindergarten year!

NOVEMBER 19, 2020 – READ-A-THON PLEDGES DUE AND ASSEMBLY
Thank you!  Thank you!  Thank you!  The Readathon is now over.  Thank you for so generously supporting the school during this fundraising event.  Most families have returned their pledges and we thank you for being so prompt.  If you have not sent in the Readathon pledge, please try to submit by Thursday, November 19th.  On this Thursday, there will be a virtual assembly to announce the class winner, the top three readers from each class, and the family and individual winners who brought in $100 or more.  Your generosity to the school is amazing!

NOVEMBER 20, 2020 – PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DAY – NO SCHOOL
There will be a Professional Development Day for OLS teachers on Friday, November 20th; therefore, there will be no school for students on this day.

NOVEMBER 30, 2020 – ADVENT PARALITURGY
Our first Advent Paraliturgy will take place on Monday, November 30th at 9:00 a.m. in the church led by our grade 6 class who will also be receiving confession on this day. All other grades will be watching the prayer and lighting of the Advent Wreaths on-line.

WEATHER UPDATE
Please note, as the weather is starting to get cold and rainy, we are asking parents to ensure students have proper jackets and shoes. As well, please do NOT send students who have gym in the morning only with a PE strip! Students may have to be outside throughout the day for recess or movement between the buildings (gym and Church). Please send jackets with hoods for your children to school daily, as well as ensuring proper uniform. Thank you.

PARISH MASSES
Please visit our Parish Website: www.olos.ca for the live Masses and updates. In this incredibly difficult time for many of us, our Parish, Father Richard, Father Testamar, and our Religious Sisters, do a wonderful job of providing us with hope and remind us that we are not alone; Jesus is with us. Masses as a family are a wonderful way to keep connected as a family and watch and pray together virtually, or in person by appointment. Call the Parish Office: 604-254-0691 to book your space!

REMINDERS
Please see OLS’s Newsletter-Reminders-2020-2021 for additional school information.
