PEC ELECTIONS 2021
Nominations for our OLS Parish Education Committee are now being accepted until Friday, September 17th. If you are interested in running for PEC, you must be a member of the Parish and School Community for a minimum of 2 years. Nomination forms can be found at the school office and school website. This year, Mrs. Lisa Mannella’s (Participation) and Mrs. Cristina Morra’s (Secretary) roles are up for election. If you are interested, nominations MUST be dropped off and signed by our Nomination Committee, Mrs. Cidalia Pashalidis (Chair) or Mr. Roger Gil (Vice Chair), prior to 3:00 p.m. on September 17, 2021. All nominations will then be submitted to our Pastor for authorization, by Monday, September 20th to determine IF elections are required. Election weekend will be Sunday, September 25th and 26th after the regular weekend Masses. Please see the requirements for PEC members on the OLS website.

PARKING REMINDER
When dropping off or picking up your children, please only park in designated parking spots. Do not park in the fire lane in front of the Gym (behind the Church). Once again, please ensure you are following all ‘rules of the road’.

UNIFORMS
Please read the Policy Manual, which is included in the students’ Agendas.  See Page 5, Item #5.  Teachers will be starting uniform checks by next week.  Please ensure all uniform items comply with the Uniform Policy.  Students will be allowed to wear summer uniform until October 1, 2021.

Please Note:  Sweaters are mandatory for all school functions such as Masses, School Assemblies, Paraliturgies, and Fieldtrips when representing the school.  

SEPTEMBER 16, 2021 – HEAD LICE INSPECTION CONSENT FORM DUE
We ask that parents please read over the Head Lice Inspection consent form which was sent home with students last week. Once you read the form and understand the procedure, please fill out the form and return it to your child’s teacher by Thursday, September 16, 2021. Head lice inspections will be held on October 5 and 6, 2021.

September 21, 2021 – YOUTH THEATRE CANADA AUDITIONS
The Youth Theatre of Canada https://www.youththeatrecanada.com/about is touring this area and looking for interested students from grades 4 to 7 to perform in “Where the Wild Things Are (ages 10-14) in Vancouver for December performance. This is an extra program outside of our school art and drama programs. Permission slips will be sent home today. Please submit a permission slip by no later than Monday, September 20th if your child is interested in auditioning and joining this group.

SEPTEMBER 23, 2021 – VIRTUAL MEET THE TEACHERS NIGHT
Please mark your calendars. The first mandatory parents’ meeting (as indicated in the Policy Manual and Registration Guide) will be held virtually on Thursday, September 23rd.  More information will follow prior to the meeting.

SEPTEMBER 24, 2021 – SWEATPANTS AND SWEATSHIRT SAMPLE SIZES VIEWING
Samples sizes will be available for you to view on Friday, September 24,2021 between 2:30-3:15 p.m. A table will be set up at the front door of the school.

SEPTEMBER 26, 2021 – COMMISSIONING SUNDAY MASS
On Sunday, September 26th at 11:30 a.m. there will be a Commissioning Mass for all staff members of Our Lady of Sorrows School.

SEPTEMBER 27, 2021 – INDIVIDUAL PHOTOS
Students will have their Individual Photos taken by Artona on Monday, September 27th.  Please ensure your child comes to school in full uniform on this day. If your child has gym this day, please ensure that they wear their gym strip under their uniform.

SEPTEMBER 27 – OCTOBER 4, 2021 – VIRTUAL SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR
The annual OLS Book Fair will be held virtually beginning on Monday, September 27th and will end on Friday, October 4th.  Further information will be sent home with students.

SEPTEMBER 29, 2021 – ORANGE SHIRT DAY
Orange Shirt Day will be held on Wednesday, September 29th. This day is to honour Indigenous children who were sent to residential schools in Canada. Orange Shirt Day challenges us to witness and honour the stories of Survivors and their families, and to commit to meaningful discussion and the ongoing process of reconciliation.

SEPTEMBER 30, 2021 – NATIONAL DAY FOR TRUTH & RECONCILIATION – STAT HOLIDAY
There will be no school on Thursday, September 30th. This day is to honour Indigenous children who were sent to residential schools in Canada.

OCTOBER 2, 2021 – FIRST COMMUNION MASS FOR LAST YEAR’S GRADE 2 CLASS
Last year’s Grade 2 class will celebrate their First Holy Communion on Saturday, October 2nd at 11 a.m. Details will be sent home by Mrs. De Amaral soon!

AFTER SCHOOL CLUB NEWS
We offer an After School Club on Monday, Tuesday and, Wednesdays only from 3:00 – 4:30 p.m. The cost for this is $5.00 per 30 minutes per student until 4:30 p.m. In the event you are late for pickup (after 4:30 p.m.), the cost will be an additional $10.00 per student per 30 minutes. Please email the office (office@myolosschool.com) if you are interested in using this service. There are no drop-ins for After School Club. All students attending After School Club must sign up for at least one day on a regular basis and then may drop in on other After School Club days.
