WEATHER UPDATE!

As we are experiencing a hotter May than usual, please remember all students should have a water bottle and their gym strip available to change into if it gets too warm. The school building has many cooler rooms and areas, so students are monitored for overheating. Students can now come in their summer uniforms. Students are also encouraged to wear hats or bring sunscreen for times they are outdoors for extended periods i.e. (Lunch recess, track practices).

MAY 19, 2023 – OLS WALK-A-THON (Full Day)

Thank you to all the families that returned the t-shirt form. All those in grade 2-7 who pre-ordered their shirts are receiving them today. Please check your children(s) bags. They can wear them on Friday. Pre-school, Kindergarten, and Grade 1  will receive them at school on Friday and they can choose to wear them that day or bring them home after their walk. Walk-a Thon shirts may be worn as gym strip for the rest of the year.

***Please continue to collect your pledges. Students are encouraged to ask family and friends to donate. Reminder that your minimum $40 pledge gets you a t-shirt and you become eligible for the amazing prizes. All pledges and monies are due by Wednesday, May 24, 2023.

MAY 24, 2023 – OLS TRACK MEET

Please refer to the Track and Field notice for details. Track meets are always rain or shine, so please make sure students are prepared for all weather as Mercer stadium has no cover area. Hats, sunscreen, and water bottles are recommended for hot days.

MAY 26 AND 29, 2023 – CONFIRMATION NEWS

On Thursday, May 25th at 7:15 p.m. there will be a mandatory Confirmation rehearsal for all Grade 7 students and their sponsors.

Confirmation will be held on Monday, May 29th at 6:00 p.m.

MAY 28, 2023 – FAMILY MASS

The Family Mass will be at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 28th.  We invite all families from OLS to celebrate the Family Mass. The OLS Family Mass is a great way for our families to attend and participate in the Sunday liturgy.

MAY 31, 2023 – CROWNING OF MARY

The Crowning of Mary Mass will be on Wednesday, May 31st at OLS Church at 7:00 p.m. Procession will follow (weather permitting). Please bring FLOWERS for Mary! All students are invited to attend. We especially encourage the Grade 2’s, new Communicants, Grade 7s and Confirmands to be present for this beautiful event. A form will be going home on Thursday, May 18th  so we can plan for the reception to follow. Coffee, cookies and juices will be available for all who attend.

REMINDERS

Please note that children should not be playing and running around on school grounds after dismissal. They should remain with their guardians/parents at all times.  The front of the school is unsupervised and not safe for children to play as there is high volume of traffic.

MCCARTHY (FORMERLY NEAT) UNIFORMS
McCarthy Uniforms will be hosting VIP event for all OLS families on Thursday, June 22nd from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Please see the attached flyer for further details. Uniforms should be examined and replaced as needed due to children outgrowing them or wear and tear.

AFTERSCHOOL PICK-UP

Due to the warmer weather, the children will now be spending more time outside. Therefore, the gate to the school parking lot will not be opened until 2:30 p.m. Please do not arrive earlier than 2:30 p.m. to pick-up your child(ren) and wait at the gate as this creates a backlog of traffic and a nuisance for the neighbourhood.

PARENT PARTICIPATION NEWS

If you have not been contacted by the PEC, your volunteer position will stay the same for the upcoming school year. Thank you for your continued support.
