DEAR PARENTS

Thank you, parents and students, for donating to our Thanksgiving Tale of the Tape food drive. A total of 2,569 items were donated with a total weight of 1,144 kgs. Thank you to Mr. Basso and our Grade 6 Class who organized this first-class challenge and to the Grade 4’s who won the Intermediate class challenge and the Grade 2’s who won most food donated for the primary classes. The overall winners are the families in need! Thank you to all parents for your generosity!

EXTRACURRICULAR UPDATE!

Again, Congratulations on our school’s Cross-Country Runners who finished top 5 out of the 40 CISVA elementary schools, and in the top 3 out of the 30 small schools’ category (under 250 students)! All our runners did very well, and many had their personal bests. Our Cross-Country program is part of our Physical Education Fitness Unit. Our only goal is for students to participate and challenge themselves to improve their overall cardiovascular fitness and health both in school and at CISVA events. Thank you to Mr. McCloskey, and all our coaches, who always greatly prepare our runners in class and for all events. Thank you, as well to all our OLS students!!

PLEASE NOTE! PARENT DRIVERS

If you plan on driving students to and/or from school events you must fill out a Volunteer Driver Form Volunteer Driver Form and provide a copy of your current driver’s license and insurance. Driver forms must be completed each year, so all previously signed forms are now void.   Also, all drivers and non-family students MUST wear masks and declare if they are non-vaccinated to their riders’ parents, (as we do not want to increase exposure risks). Please only volunteer if you can communicate to the family that you are helping to drive in advance. Unfortunately, the bus is not always available for all events as many programs and grades overlap their needs for rides. Thank you for helping to ensure all students continue to stay safe!

Thank you!

OCTOBER 29, 2021 – HALLOWEEN BASH

The Halloween Bash will be held on Friday, October 29th during school hours (please see the form sent home today). The Halloween Committee will be setting up the Halloween Bash in the gym for each class to take part in during their gym class. Students will have the opportunity to play carnival games, Halloween bingo and the famous lollipop pull. We are going to have plenty of prizes and a treat bag for everyone. Please remember this is a kids’ only event and no outside class treats are allowed. Thank you to all our sponsors, and our amazing Halloween Committee who have managed to organize a fun yet safe Halloween Bash for our students!

Also, we have decided to keep the raffle and the Halloween Bash separate. This year we will be doing a Black Friday Raffle that will go home on Friday, October 29th and the draw will be on Friday, November 26th. More details to come!

OCTOBER 29, 2021 – COSTUME DAY

Students may come to school dressed in Halloween costumes or colours (e.g., orange and black) on Friday, October 29th. PLEASE DO NOT come dressed in scary costumes or costumes with weapons to school. Also, due to the mask mandate, no other face coverings are allowed.

OCTOBER 31, 2021 – FAMILY MASS – 11:30 A.M.

The Family Mass will held be on Sunday, October 31st at 11:30 a.m. We invite all families from OLS to celebrate the Family Mass. This is a great way for our families to attend and participate in the required Sunday liturgy.

OCTOBER 27, 2021 – INDIVIDUAL PHOTOS RETAKE DAY

Retakes will be held on Wednesday, October 27th. Please have your child dressed in full uniform on this day if they wish to have their individual photo retaken. If you wish your child to have a retake, please let your child’s classroom teacher know.

NEW NOTIFICATION METHOD FOR ABSENTEES & LATE NOTICES

If your child is going to be absent or late, our two preferred methods of notification are as follows:

  1. visit our website (https://ourladyofsorrows.ca/lates-absences/) and fill in all the requested information. Please note the new top tap ‘LATES & ABSENCES’; or
  2. email us at office@myolosschool.com.

If you do not complete one of the options above, upon your child’s return to school, you must send a note to the classroom teacher explaining the reason for the absence. Please ensure you include all dates absent.  If you have more than one child, we require a separate note for each one.  This information is required for our annual Attendance Audit which determines our government funding for the year.

UNIFORMS

Please read the Policy Manual, which is included in the students’ Agendas.  See page 5, item #5.  Teachers will be starting uniform checks by next week.  Please ensure all uniform items comply with the Uniform Policy.  As of October 1st, your child was required to come school in regular (not summer) uniform.

Please Note:  Sweaters or vests are mandatory for all school functions such as Masses, School Assemblies, Para-liturgies, and Fieldtrips when representing the school.

NEIGHBOURHOOD PARKING

Please be kind and respect all local parking and road speed signs for the safety of the children! Out of respect for our neighbours, DO NOT park in front of their houses or block driveways.

Especially, do not backup or drive the wrong way in drop-off zones. Please leave enough distance between cars!
